Shop Talk
New Features
New Features in Version 3.1:
-
New Send-To-Many Screen. In this version, the Send-To-Many screen was rebuilt to prevent the "Access Violation"

just like the standard Create Message screen.
-
Printing Size Limit Fixed. No longer does Shop Talk exit with an error when a large message is printed.
-
Printing Word Wrap Fixed. The printing problem where the messages weren't wrapping properly was fixed.
-
Messages Not Checked When Password Dialog is Open. No longer does Shop Talk check for new messages when the Enter Password dialog is open.
-
Memory Leak Plugged. A memory leak was discovered and fixed that involved searching for files on the server.

New Features in Version 3.0:
-
Enhanced "Inbox" feature. In this version we renamed the "Get Messages" screen to "Inbox". While the user is on
the Inbox screen, the program will now automatically check for new messages and add them to the message list.
-
Mark As Read. You can now mark messages in your inbox as "read". This will keep the message in your inbox, but
it will not cause Shop Talk to popup the new messages list.
-
Scrolling Folders List. The list of folders on the main screen was changed from a pull down list to a scrolling
pick list. This make is much easier to see the available folders and easier to switch between them.
-
Folder names not all caps. When creating a new saved message folder, you are now not forced to use all uppercase
letters.
-
New Admin privilege level There are now three privilege levels for user:
Admin: Has access to all program features, including changes to users and groups.
Standard: Has access to all program features except changes to users and groups.
ReadOnly: Is able to read messages, but cannot sent or reply to message. Also, cannot change
users or groups.
-
Separate settings for each user on a single workstation. This version includes the ability to have a separate
saved messages folder for each user.
-
Check if recipient is active when sending an urgent message. When you send an urgent message to a single user,
and that user is not currently logged in, a message pops up alerting you to the fact that the recipient is not logged
in and asks you if you want to send the message anyway.
-
Deleted folder. Each user has an option to save deleted messages in a "Deleted" folder.
-
Window size memory If you change the size of any of the resizable windows in Shop Talk, the size of that window
will be remembered the next time that window is opened.
New Features in Version 2.8.0:
-
Spell checking. Added spell checking tool to the Create Message screen.
User can spell check their message before sending it by choosing "Spell Checker"
from the "Tools" menu, or by pressing -F10.
-
Cc: and Bcc:. Added the ability to designate Cc: and Bcc: recipients for
any standard message. When the user is creating a new message and they press the
"Send To Many" button, they can now designate "primary", "copy" and "blind copy"
recipients. All recipients will receive a copy of the message, but Cc: and Bcc:
recipients will know that the message was not intended directly for them. They
only received a copy as a reference. The list of Bcc: recipients is not displayed
to any other recipients. This allows the user to send a copy of the message to
people without letting other people know that they were copied.
-
Fixed dead letters problem from deleted group members. When a user, who was
a member of a distribution group, was deleted, that user was still receiving copies
of messages that were addressed to the distribution group. This no longer happens.
-
Fixed wrapping bug in message printouts. Fixed the problem with lines
wrapping too early in message printouts.
New Features in Version 2.7.0:
-
New Ownership. Program now owned, distributed and supported by
Deer Park Software.
-
Bug Fix. Fixed the bug where Phone messages that were saved to the
Outbox did not have the information from the phone specific fields
(Caller Name, RE:, …).
New Features in Version 2.6.0:
-
Quick Replies. When reading any message, you can
choose from the "Quick Replies" list to send a predefined
quick response to that message. Currently, the Quick Reply choices are
"Yes", "No", "Ok" and "Thanks".
You can customize the Quick Replies by modifying the file
"qreplys.txt" (located in the ShopTalk network directory) with
any text editor.
-
Phone Message Template. Press the "Phone Msg"
button on the main screen when you are taking a phone message for someone.
The Phone Message screen that comes up has predefined fields for the Caller’s
Name and Phone number, "Re:" (what the message was about), and
pick list of Actions, such "Please call back" or "They will
call back". The Actions list is modifiable by simply modifying the
"actions.txt" file that is in the Shop Talk Network directory.
-
Read Receipts. You can now be notified with a read
receipt message of when a recipient reads a message that you send. When
creating the message, simply check the read receipt check box on the screen.
-
Message preview on New Messages List screen. The New
Messages List screen now shows a preview of the first 30 or 40 characters of
each message that is waiting to be read.
New Features in Version 2.5.2:
-
Distribution Groups. You can now set up groups of users
that can be selected when sending a message. All of the users in the group
receive a copy of the message.
-
Bug Fix. The program no longer hangs when you try to
read a message that’s in the Outbox.
New Features in Version 2.5.1:
-
Double click message folder. When saving a message
to a local folder, you can now double click on the desired folder to
select it instead of having to highlight the folder name and clicking
the OK button.
-
Fixed message text file location bug. No longer is the
full path of the ".tms" message text file stored in the message
file. Just the name of the message text file is stored without the path.
-
Fixed printing of long messages bug. Long messages
(longer than 500 chars) will now print correctly.
-
Bug Fix. When you save messages longer than 160
characters, no longer will every 81 character get duplicated in the saved
message file.
New Features in Version 2.5.0:
-
Unlimited maximum message lengths. No longer are your
messages limited to a maximum length of 255 or 500 characters.
-
CC: List. When you receive a message, you can now
view a list of everyone who received a copy of that message.
-
Optional Outbox. You now have the option to save all
sent messages in an "outbox" for later review.
-
Optional command line parameters.
syntax: shoptalk.exe [minimize flag] [username]
If the minimize flag is "Y", Shop Talk will be minimized on
startup. The username is the name of the user you want to run as. Both
parameters are optional and should be separated by a space. The Username
is case sensitive. You can't specify the username without specifying a
"Y" or "N" for the minimize flag. You will probably
want to add the minimize flag to your Shop Talk shortcut that is in your
Startup folder. The check box that was on the Settings screen has been
removed.
New Features in Version 2.0:
-
32-bit. This version will not run in Windows 3.x.
If you still have workstations that are running Windows 3.x, contact Deer
Park Software for a registered copy of the version 1.5 installation program.
-
500 character maximum message lengths. The maximum
message length has been extended to 500 characters from 250.
-
Optional user logins with passwords. If
this feature is activated, each user will have to enter their password each
time Shop Talk is started. They will also be asked for a password if they try
to change the Default User to a different name.
-
Two user privilege levels, ‘Manager’ and ‘Employee’.
Managers have full access to all features of Shop Talk. Employees are
not able to send or reply-to messages. If you want all users to have full
access to the features, you can set everyone to Manager level.
-
Send a message to only the users that are logged in. On
the Send-To-Many screen, there is a check box that will make the list of the
users show only the people who are currently running Shop Talk. You must
press the Refresh button after checking or unchecking the box. Everyone must
have their system clocks synchronized for this feature to work properly.
-
Enhanced checking for the status of your network. Smart
logic has been added to determine when your network goes down. This helps
prevent Shop Talk from locking up the PC when your network connection is
lost.
-
Mimimize on start-up. A setting has been added to the
Settings screen that will allow you to start Shop Talk minimized.
