GolfCalc for Windows

  1. How do I track 9-hole scores in GolfCalc?
9-hole scores work just fine in GolfCalc if you follow one of these procedures:

    1. Don't combine 9-hole scores with 18-hole scores for one golfer. If a golfer plays both, you can setup two 'golfers' in the program, one for the 9s and one for the 18s. You will also need to setup the 9-hole course with a slope and 9-hole rating. Only use this course for the 9-hole scores. When you calculate a course handicap for a '9-hole' golfer, it will be a 9-hole handicap.

NOTE: If your course only supplies 18-hole ratings, you can calculate the 9-hole ratings yourself. Just divide the 18-hole course rating in half. The slope rating should be the same for both 9 and 18 holes.

    2. If you need to combine 9-hole scores with 18-hole scores for the same golfer, you must convert the 9-hole scores into 18-hole scores by either:
      • doubling the 9-hole score, or
      • combine two back-to-back 9-hole rounds.
This way you would enter the score(s) as if it was for 18 holes and be able to combine it with "true" 18-hole rounds.

I have to throw in a disclaimer here. These methods are probably not supported by the USGA or your local golf association. So you cannot use the handicaps generated by GolfCalc for a "sanctioned" event. But, they will work just fine for your personal handicap tracking and informal events.

  2. Why don't the columns align on my printouts?
We have discovered that some models of HP printers ignore the fact that GolfCalc tells it to use a fixed-width font. The printer decides on it's own to use a different font, usually not fixed-width, for the printouts. The use of this different font causes the columns not to align properly.

So far, we haven't come up with resolution for this problem. We're working on it. If you have any information that might help us fix this problem, please use the form below to submit it to us. We would appreciate hearing from you if you know of a way to change the settings of the printer to fix it, or if you would like to report the printer model you're encountering the problem with, or anything else that may help us.

Printers/Models that have been reported with this problem:
    • HP LaserJet 6P, 5
    • HP OfficeJet G55, G85, 919
    • HP DeskJet 722c, 932c

  3. When I install the registered version, will I lose the data I entered in the trial version?
No, as long as you install the registered version into the same folder that your trial version was installed into your data will be retained.

  1. When I install the registered version, will I lose the data I entered in the trial version?
No, as long as you install the registered version into the same folder that your trial version was installed into your data will be retained.

  2. We purchased the registered version, but one of my workstations is still saying it's unregistered.
Sometimes a workstation will get confused as to where the Shop Talk Server folder is. The primary symptom of this is when you see the "unregistered" message after you install the registered version. The easiest way to fix this is to delete the "shoptalk.ini" file from the C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT folder and re-run the workstation installation program ("ws_setup.exe") on that workstation.

  3. One of our workstations asks for a password, but we have the password feature turned off.
Sometimes a workstation will get confused as to what the default user is for a workstation. Shop Talk then displays the login prompt to allow for the entry of the correct user name. Unfortunately, the user also needs to enter a password to get past the prompt. The easiest way to fix this is to delete the "shoptalk.ini" file from the C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT folder and re-run the workstation installation program ("ws_setup.exe") on that workstation.
